Is color making a comeback?

Is color making a comeback?

Let’s talk color

Remember back in the day when all we could think about was finding the perfect gray for our walls? All we wanted was a gray that one that didn’t pull too blue with the oak floors (good luck with that). Then we realized we craved a little more warmth and true grey became Greige (thank you, Revere Pewter). Then overnight like a snowstorm, everything went to white. I have been all for the white invasion. A huge fan of Sherwin Williams Alabaster or Benjamin Moore White Dove, but I noticing a pull towards using color in a big way, no longer just in the accessories on the coffee table or pillows on the sofa. Is color making a comeback? Look at some of these rooms and try not to let me persuade you to run to the paint store.

One of the things I noticed most when I writing this post about color on the walls is that I’m really drawn to tone on tone painted rooms. What is tone on tone? Tone on tone means taking one color and using it around the room and by lightening or darkening it in different points it creates such an amazing dramatic look. It may be hard to notice the subtle changes in the color or sheen of the paint, but it sure as heck screams for your attention when the trim or woodwork is painted in a similar color as the walls. Imagine the how different the pink picture above would make you feel if only the walls were pink, but the doors and trim remained white. And look how Kelly Hartley created such a cozy oasis in her bedroom by taking the colors in her bedding and her headboard and matching the color onto the wainscoting and trim. So subtle, but still so good.

If you’re a little timid about making a big splash. Try a statement paint color in a room that is tucked away in your home. Like in the green room, where the it is otherwise visible from the main areas of the home, the pocket doors allow the wild side to be hidden when it’s appropriate. An office or a bedroom is another good place to dip your toes in to adding color to your interior walls.
